The presentation about “New Challenges in Engineering” will deal with the concepts of fracking, major infrastructure and the Aerospace Industry. The purpose of the presentation is to describe the project/scope/challenges encountered/technological characteristics, comment on the risks associated with the project and indicate the technical means to control the risks during the execution of the project.
Ms. Mª Teresa Queralt
ITSEMAP Engineering Department, MAPFRE GLOBAL RISKS
Technical Industrial Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in the Insurance Sector and Risk Control Engineering in National and International Insurance Companies. She has a Master’s Degree in Comprehensive Safety in the Company from the MAPFRE Foundation. She is currently the coordinator of the Verification team of MAPFRE GLOBAL RISKS EMEA.
Mr. Luis Cosano
Director of Operations, FREYSSINET
Civil Engineer specialising in Foundations and Structures from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, MBA from the EOI Business School, and Technical Engineer of Public Works in the specialism of Hydrology.
He has 15 years’ experience in the design, construction, repair, reinforcement, protection and maintenance of large civil works infrastructure, construction, industrial and heritage. He began his professional career in the sphere of calculation engineering and structural definition, and then joined Freyssinet, a French multinational specialising in the sectors of post-tensioning, ties, execution methods, as well as the repair and reinforcement of all kinds of structures. In the eleven years with that company, he has held a number of positions of responsibility, from engineer in the technical department, to head of Construction post-tensioning, and his current position as head of operations of the Rehabilitation of Structures department.
He has formed or forms part of working groups for the drafting of different recommendations or documents of a regulatory nature, such as W.G. 3.11 of the ACHE (Scientific-Technical Structural Concrete Association), for the drafting of recommendations for the calculation and execution of post-tensioned slabs, and was vice-president and secretary of the regulatory group of the Association for the Repair, Reinforcement and Protection of Concrete (ARPHO).
Ms. Raquel Fernández
Environmental Management Analyst, REPSOL
Born in Madrid in 1975. Graduate in Chemical Engineering (1999) from the Complutense University of Madrid. Advanced Occupational Hazard Prevention Officer, specialising in Safety at Work, from the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety in Madrid (2000).
She has been working in Repsol since 2000, including four years’ experience at the Puertollano Industrial Complex and, since 2004, working for the Corporate Safety and Environment Department.
Since 2013, she has been developing the “Project for the Analysis of Environmental Risks in Exploration and Production Operations in New Environments: Hydraulic Fracture and Arctic Environment” for the Exploration and Production Safety and Environment Department.

Mr. Jesús San Juan
Institutional Relations Manager, AIRBUS DEFENSE & SPACE Madrid Systems
Since 2014, Jesús San Juan has been the Head of Institutional Relations of AIRBUS CASA Espacio, a subsidiary of AIRBUS Defence and Space, where he undertakes tasks of representation of the company, as well as support to the Strategy, Communication and Business Development plans. He was previously Business Development Manager of the Launchers and Systems department and Project Leader (2004-2009) or Technical Manager on different developments (1990-1997). He also worked for over 10 years in France, first as Satellite Systems Engineer at Alcatel Space (1997-2000), later as Head of Department in the Systems Division of Arianespace (2010-2014), or as Manager of development and production programmes (2000-2004), playing a key role in the development and certification of satellites and launchers prior to flight.
He is an Engineering Graduate from the Polytechnic University of Madrid
